Basements
An unfinished basement is storage. A finished one is a media room, a home gym, an in-law suite, or the rec room your kids take over so the rest of the house stays quiet. We finish and remodel basements across Raleigh with the moisture work done first and the finishes built to last.
Step zero
A beautiful basement with a water problem is just an expensive water problem. Before any framing goes up we assess drainage, grading, humidity, and any history of seepage — Raleigh’s clay soil and summer humidity make this non-negotiable. If your basement needs waterproofing or a dehumidification plan, that goes in the scope up front, not in a change order after the drywall smells.
The build
Media rooms with the lighting done right. Home gyms with flooring that takes a dropped dumbbell. Guest and in-law suites — add a bathroom and an egress window and it’s legal sleeping space. Home offices with actual doors.
And wet bars or kitchenettes built with the same custom cabinetry and countertop options we put in main kitchens, because the basement shouldn’t get the leftover quality. The full scope is ours: framing, insulation, electrical, plumbing, HVAC extension, egress windows where bedrooms are planned, flooring, and built-ins. The cabinetry and stone are the same quality you can see in the Lake Gaston kitchen project.

Code
Basement bedrooms require egress windows. Ceiling heights, smoke detectors, and electrical all have code requirements that decide whether your finished basement counts as living area or just “storage with carpet.” We pull permits with the City of Raleigh and Wake County and build to pass inspection — which protects your resale value, not just ours.
The process
Moisture assessment first, then design and a fixed scope, then permits, framing, mechanicals, inspections, and finishes. Most basements run six to ten weeks — longer when a bathroom or kitchenette adds plumbing.
Because the work is below your living space, most families stay home comfortably for the whole build. Read more about the team and process behind our projects.
Tell us what’s down there now and what you wish was. Considering upstairs instead? Compare with an attic conversion during your discovery call.
It depends on square footage, whether plumbing is added, and the finish level. After an on-site assessment you get a fixed price for a fixed scope. Adding a bathroom is the biggest single cost variable.
Usually yes — but the moisture cause gets fixed first. That might mean grading, drainage, sealing, or a dedicated dehumidifier, and it goes in the plan before finishes do.
If it’s permitted, conditioned, and meets code (including egress for bedrooms), yes. That’s exactly why we build to code rather than around it.

Yes — built with the same custom cabinetry and stone we put in main kitchens. It’s the most requested feature in basements meant for guests or in-laws.
